LOOKING FORWARD / MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER
VISION: A large, growing, regional church of influence.
MISSION: Showing people all they can become in Christ.
Vision is seeing ahead to what we will be. (Heb 11:1)
Mission is the focus of what we do.
A large, growing, regional church mentality versus a domestic mentality:
i) Presentation.
ii) Profile & culture.
iii) Organizational structure.
iv) Financials & purchasing. "When it comes to question, what's it going to cost to pursue our vision, winning churches answer, 'Whatever it takes.'"
Organizational structure:
i) PRIMARY LEADER (Senior Pastor) - Leads, and is accountable to the board.
ii) STAFF - manage a department or ministry and are accountable to Senior Pastor.
iii) PARTNERS & ATTENDERS - serve in a department or ministry and are accountable to the staff member who heads up the department or ministry in which they serve.
iv) BOARD - GOVERNS BY POLICIES (that is, sets up the principles and boundaries in which the Senior Pastor leads and works) The board does not lead; it does not manage.
Looking forward & moving forward together:
i) "All the believers were together" (Acts 2:44) literally "were all moving in the same direction."
"I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health just as your soul prospers." (3 John 2)
One of the ways in which the soul of the church (which is the staff) prospers, is to be on the same page; to be all moving in the same direction. (Gen 11:6)
ii) "Praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people, the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." (Acts 2:47) The word "number is translated from the same Greek phrase as "together" (v44). Therefore, the Lord added to their "togetherness," or to their "unity" or to their "healthy, prosperous soul,” as people were regularly saved and added.
iii) "All the people" with whom the church had favour, relates to the general community who looked on and saw the quality of their relationships and community, and were attracted to this quality community, and when they came, they found Jesus, and committed their lives to him on a daily basis.
iv) "Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them." (John 13:17; Rom 12:2): We teach, instruct and challenge the people with whom we have to do, to move past the mediocre and victim mentality, to receive the blessing of God, by following the pattern of Christ. (SHOWING PEOPLE ALL THEY CAN BECOME IN CHRIST - Col 1:28 "Complete in Christ." Knowing must translate into doing to receive the blessing.
v) If the church is to sincerely pursue its vision and fulfil its mission, it will need to exercise a "LARGE, GROWING, REGIONAL CHURCH MENTALITY RATHER THAN A DOMESTIC MENTALITY:"
In presentation.
In profile and culture.
In organizational structure.
In financials and purchasing.
In a prosperous and healthy soul that overflows into a prosperous and healthy church which will attract and have favour with people in the community around us.
